Weighing Sweden’s Coronavirus Model

The global economy needs a leader as lockdowns are lifted and countries fear a second wave if lockdowns are relaxed to quickly. The Swedish model can be that model and happy to see WHO endorsing it as a legitimate approach.

The worst case scenarios never materialized in terms of Covid disease but have materialized in economic terms. Stricter lockdowns were triggered by real capacity issues but more importantly by flawed models (Imperial model being the main suspect model).

Relaxing faster will allow the economy to rebound faster. Fears of a second wave are real but we now  know how to deal with it.

Growing protests, depression, domestic violence, alcoholism, poverty and most important the potential that Sweden has lit a path for a more human, sensible approach,  should cause us to leave strict lockdowns in the dustbin of history.

The US needs to recapture the leadership role in successfully emerging from the pandemic that we relinquished in managing it.
